Social Welfare Policy: the film Four HorsemenThe housing market crash that preceded the events that culminated in the global economic crisis affected millions of people across the United States. The crash is estimated to have affected nearly half the states and as such, it is quite probable that we all either directly or indirectly know of someone that was affected when the housing market crashed. The myth of individual happiness as indicated in the film essentially means that as humans, we are essentially social animals and as such, we tend to experience true happiness when we share and enjoy with others.

The current misconception is that we should all try to work individually try to work towards attaining greater heights of success (Ashcroft 2012).The heart is what mostly dictates if one is a social worker. This is because the sometimes cold logic that is employed when one uses only the head to resolve social work issues can lack the warm touch that most individual in need of social work require. However, if one opts to instead use the heart to resolve social issues and problems, they will be able to provide the much needed caring touch to those in need.

The film has impacted me personally as it has caused me to greatly question the current financial institutions. It has caused me to have a greater awareness of just how things are currently being run in the world and I will be more inquisitive in future and will be critically analyzing any information that I happen to come across instead of solely relying on only the information that I obtain from the media. As a professional, I now understand just how some of the social issues we face such as increased poverty and growing unemployment have come about.

As such, I will tackle the issues that I happen to come across in a different and more effective manner. The emotive feeling that is stirred up in me after watching the film is that of a need to take quick action to stop the increasing devastation that is being brought about by the four horsemen of rapacious financial system, escalating violence, widespread poverty and dwindling natural resources. Urgent change and an enlightenment of the people are required if the current trends are to be reversed.

This important part of society is hidden from us in schools of social work because as Ashcroft (2012) postulates in the film, education and school can be used as means of mass mind control. By keeping this part of society hidden from us, it is possible to stop future social workers from knowing the real truth and developing solutions to the problems that currently ail our society. This film has greatly awakened my awareness as I now understand that a lot needs to be done if the problems ailing our society today are to be resolved.

I now understand that the FIAT system that is currently in use is failing and it is paramount that we return to the gold standard which is a better and fairer system that is essentially outside the control of politicians. Some of the positive takeaways that can come from this documentary include the fact that it is possible for a revolution of the people to force the current system to change. Another positive takeaway is that if industries were owned by the individuals working in them as had been proposed by President Lincoln, wealth would be more equally distributed.

Social workers should care about this business-based documentary as it helps to greatly highlight the root causes of the daily issues that they have to deal with (Ashcroft 2012).SWOT Analysis on the Four Horsemen DocumentaryStrengthsThe individuals interviewed are credible professionals with a deep understanding of global financial issues. The film’s core subject matter is rather complex, however it has been simplified into a form that is easily understandable by average people.WeaknessesThe film is too long and has the effect of causing one to lose interest in it towards the end.

The film does not seem to comprehensively analyze possible solutions to the myriad of problems that it highlights.OpportunitiesEach of the issues surrounding the four horsemen can be expanded upon and tackled separately in a more comprehensive manner. Each of the topics of the four horsemen as addressed in the film can be produced into a short film on its own to help in reducing the overall length of the entire film.ThreatsThe film faces the threat of its possibly being criticized by the individuals implicated as causing the problems it highlights.

The film can possibly be accused of inciting people to take action against the current systems and thus disrupting peace. On a scale of 1 to 10, the film would probably score a possible 4. This is because although it highlights and presents some very interesting concepts, it is too long which causes one to lose attention towards the end. Another factor that contributes to this score is that the film is done in an interview format with no scenes having interesting corresponding dramatic depictions.
