Prosecution of crime perpetrators is the only sure way of safeguarding civilians against the heinous acts of crime. It is ethically right to subject criminals to conditions equivalent to the enormity of their crimes. However, this cannot be achieved devoid of justice. It is a common perception that the achievement of justice is an expensive process. Early release of inmates based on their reformation is a feasible alternative way of decongesting the jails and reintroducing the inmates back to economically productive life (Spencer, 2014, pp. 126). Early release of criminals presents a breach of justice since there is no assurance of the criminal’s perceptions of their early discharge.

On the other hand, it is important to decongest the jails once an inmate manifests a change. Undeniably, sentencing criminals to definite jail terms offer a punishment commensurate with the enormity of their crimes. In essence, it is a deterrent mechanism for prospective criminals. The subjection of criminals to complete jails terms is neither an assurance of behavior change nor public security (Purpura, 1996, pp. 23). Completion of jail terms may become disastrous when the ex-inmate misconstrues the society to be antagonistic of their acts and as the reason for their detention.

It is right to set reform indicators for inmates to ensure that early release does not lead to recidivism but acts to reinstate back ex-inmates to a productive life.
