Global Environment Introduction Globalization requires pragmatism and dynamism due to constantly changing the organizational environment. Organizational leaders must, therefore, remain relevant in the changing times through innovative and best practices and policies that fit in the context of each organization. This paper addresses how leadership best practices influence the organization to be competitive in the global environment. The paper critically looks at the importance of leadership best practices for meeting the diverse needs of the stakeholders. It also examines how globalization influences the selection of leadership practices and ultimately the sustainability of the organization. In addition, it addresses how educational leadership practices influence the implementation of effective models that maximize global competitiveness. The importance of leadership best practices for meeting the diverse needs of stakeholders Maximizing Opportunities in the Global World Leadership ensures flexibility and creates room for adjusting to varying cultures and markets by keeping a global perspective through continual learning. Organizational structures are also adjusted in order to meet the needs of the stakeholders such as clients and partners (Dignam, & Galanis, 2009). Managing the diversity in the workplace Leadership ensures the existence of a balance among the methods required to manage different generations and categories of people effectively. It also measures staff performance by considering outputs so that the expectations of the stakeholders are met (Dignam, & Galanis, 2009). This entails understanding behavioral diversity so that approaches to handling individuals are more creative and diverse. Responding to changing times Technological, environmental and business changes that occur globally require leaders to be dynamic and up-to-date with such information so that obsolescence of ideas and methods of operation does not arise. As new ideas, policies and practices come, new and innovative approaches should be considered by leaders in order to meet the demands of the stakeholders (Dignam & Galanis, 2009). Becoming globally competitive Competition is a perpetual practice that requires sound decisions and strategies such as risk taking in order for an organization to remain relevant in the global frontier (Blum & Wey, 2008). Organizations compete for clients, resources, technology and space. With sound and best leadership practices, stakeholders’ needs are met by implementing modern policies and strategies that can compete favorably in the global space. Remaining visionary According to Blum and Wey (2008), every organization has a vision enshrined in its goals and objectives and the stakeholders aim at realizing such dreams. With good leadership practices such as staying focused, an organization can realize its vision if the leaders act in the interest of the stakeholders by embracing consultative leadership approach. How globalization influences the selection of leadership practices and ultimately the sustainability of the organization Dekker (2013) argues that globalization and perpetual changes that take place in various organizational environments demands new ways of rendering efficacious strategic leadership in different institutions and organizations. This paper discusses a conceptual model that incorporates strategic focus and strategic leadership. This is because strategic leadership is fundamental to addressing emerging global demands and challenges. Global Mindset Globalization requires a leader of an organization to think globally and act globally in order to offer effective leadership. This is because globalization is not limited to geographical confinements, embraces multiple languages and expatriation and cultural diversity. When leaders of organizations acquire a global mindset, their leadership in a global capacity becomes effective since business and cultural complexity increases every day (Dekker, 2013). This mindset enables leaders to influence groups, individuals and different organizations in spite of varying psychological, social and intellectual knowledge. Leaders, therefore, have to think globally and act locally and globally by deepening their understanding of the cultural and local differences. In addition, leaders have to recognize circumstances that demand both local and global compelling elements such as market and cross-cultural diversities. Embracing Diversity Inclusivity in organizations is a fundamental global leadership principle. This ensures that leaders are divulged to international issues, and emerging trends facing other leaders elsewhere who have to think and act differently. Diversity calls for the curiosity of leaders to delve into risky ventures. Other than cultural diversity, gender diversity is taking new dimensions in employment arena by incorporating women in lucrative and executive positions. In connection to this, the young generation also has their social ways of learning, and this emphasizes the essence of thinking about new solutions for different ways of considering the modern-day problems and opportunities. Collaborative Leverage Technology Leaders who are comfortable with the resources and tools of today’s technology make their organizations competitive in the global frontier. It is because they enjoy the benefits of processes efficiency and the related reduction in the cost (Blankstein et al., 2015). Technology globally impacts their labor force in various ways within the organizations such as making knowledge available at any time to whoever needs it irrespective of their physical geographical location. It also creates room for meetings, teleconferencing, and video conferencing other than leaders’ application sharing in far-flung locations. In addition, user-generated content ensures a faster availability of information in formats that can be used and later on reused by leaders to enhance collaboration and virtual networking. Blankstein et al. (2015) further suggests that collaboration helps in creating successful change by engaging the generation that is impacted and also ensures ownership level that is higher so allow actions to be taken. Through collaboration, right people are linked to the right job at the right time in order to create a competitive advantage for the company. Change Agent Championing of businesses and organizations in the global market, as examined by Dess (2012), require creativity and innovation by leaders. This is because there are emerging global trends leading to versatile challenges in the global frontier, and therefore replication of solutions leveraged in other regions does not offer any solution to an organization. This is due to this dynamic nature of challenges and emerging trends leading to complexity of the business environment. The best way to navigate such complexity successfully by the global leaders is to pool together skills, knowledge, experiences by networking through technology. In order to attain this, leaders need to be creative, flexible and willing to change in spite of the ambiguity of challenges. How educational leadership practices influence the implementation of effective models that maximize global competitiveness. In order to cope with the ever-growing global competition, countries must undertake to spend more on transformative and innovative education practices and policies (Dess, 2012). Good educational leadership practices begin with coherence and clarity of purpose since the global world is more independent and interconnected. The global world is faced with planetary challenges such as global economic recessions, terrorism, trade imbalances, international conflicts and political instability. In addition, the global collaboration enhances sharing of opportunities in various areas such as international cooperation, trade, artistic and scientific creation. Global competitiveness has continued to increase in different ways Technological models Internationalization of information and communication services encompasses the exponential expansion of communication that is computer-based through email, internet, computer systems and mobile phones. This electronic revolution has boosted economic expansion, democratization and diversification of information due to online business and money transfer across borders (Morrill, 2007). The whole chain of technology cannot be entirely left in the hands of the public sector. Still, key players must step in such as educational leaders to diversify and widen the scope in different fields such as research, science, medicine and economics that have become globally competitive in the recent past. Business models Global business is fast changing due to the ever rising competition, and innovations are coming up in the business arena such as online business transactions, teleconferencing and common regional currencies (Morrill, 2007). The educational leaders play an important role in ensuring that such advancements in the global business and economic world remain competitive to the advantage of organizations by integrating the models in planning and policy development. Environmental models The global environment receives much pressure such as resources depletion, rising demographics, habitat destruction, global warming and pollution among others. These challenges impact many people by transcending borders and, therefore, the global environment becomes not only a concern to politicians, policy makers, scientists but also to educational leaders. Social models Globalization is marked with cultural diversity and language differences across international borders. Social interactions via online platforms such as social media play a vital role in bringing people together to interact and break cultural boundaries in order to become one big block. Educational leaders enhance this by emphasizing cultural inclusivity irrespective of the geographical boundaries. Conclusion It is important for leaders to exercise best practices that help in meeting the diverse needs of organizational stakeholders in a globally competitive environment. It is possible to do this by maximizing opportunities in the global world, managing the diversity in the workplace and responding to changing times. Sound leadership practices also ensure the sustainability of organizations through the development of a global mindset, embracing diversity, collaborative leverage technology and becoming an agent of change. In addition, educational leadership practices influence the implementation of effective business, technological and environmental models that maximize global competitiveness.
