The different types of a SOWStatements of Works (SOWs) can be classified in terms of function, performance or design. They include:Functional Based SOWThis type describes the “what, when and where” of the supplies or services to be provided. It allows the provider to determine the most efficient means of accomplishing the work.

Performance-Based SOWThis is the type is more appropriate in service contracts and mostly describes governments top-level objectives for an acquisition. However it doesn’t describe how the work stated is to be accomplished but it gives details on the work purpose and desired output for that work. Design- Based SOWThis type is normally used for architect-engineer, construction and commercial contracts. They describe how work is to be performed and the materials to be used. The process of acquiring 100 Ford trucks for the U.S. Border Patrol will require a Functional Based SOW.

The functional based SOW will define what is to be supplied; and for this case is100 Ford trucks. It will also state when that is the timeline for the deliveries to be made and where they will be made and for this case will be the Border Patrol base. It will also allow the vendor to determine the most efficient way of delivering the trucks so long as the timeline is met. So all this makes the Functional base SOW the most suitable approach for this acquisition. ReferencesCompton, P. (2010). Federal Acquisition: Key Issues and Guidance.
