Polka Dot Art

Whimsical art for little people...Polka Dot is a visual arts class with a refreshing and whimsical approach to children’s art. We are on an adventure…an exploration of materials and ideas. We attempt to expand the creative experience and awareness of children through painting, drawing, sculpture and other manipulations of art materials. Children have only themselves to please as they glue, glop, smudge, sculpt and drip their way through a variety of open-ended art ideas. Each class includes a snack, story and singing.

Sewing Workshops with LeNore

The Sew Fun! Camps were so popular over the summer that we decided to add a few workshops during the school year! Come have fun during BVSD days off from school while you sew up a storm in these themed project workshops. Lenore can take beginners to advanced students and help everybody further develop their skills. Bring a sewing machine if you have one, but if you don’t, let us know and we will make sure you have access to one!

September: Bagalicious! Create a bag for yourself (choose from 3 patterns, depending on your skill level) and embellish it with some fun techniques. Time to create and sew the bag and ideas and supplies that can be taken home if you don’t finish!

October: A Boo-tiful bag…just in time for trick-or-treating! Make a Halloween-themed bag for your (or your younger sibling’s!) candy haul! Time to create3 and sew the bag and ideas and supplies that can be taken home if you don’t finish!

November: Ho, Ho, Ho! There will be several Christmas-themed project s to choose from, including a tree skirt and Christmas stockings. Emphasis will be on appliqué techniques (sewing a shape onto the surface of the fabric). Ideas and supplies that can be taken home if you don’t finish!

Cartoon Character Development After School Class

What: Funny pages, Anime, Superheroes, and Characters; Develop your style, story ideas, drawing skills, knowledge of proportions, inking and color application. Join this class to explore the many aspects of the fine art of the cartoon.

Stencil and Graffiti After School Class

Use the ideas from stenciling and graffiti as your source of ideas and inspiration in this art class. Students will use a variety of media to explore the history and political context of graffiti. They will “tag” using paint, spray paint, pencil, marker and ink. How does graffiti overlap with art in this hi-tech, verbally driven world w all live in?

Holiday Card Printmaking Workshop

Catch the holiday spirit by making holiday cards in this printmaking workshop. You will be able to make and print as many cards as you can finish during the workshop. There will be open printmaking times to come and make more relief prints.

Teen Film Program

Work closely with a professional filmmaker-mentor. Write, shoot and edit videos on various subjects. We are working to get you a real audience for your finished products. We will be offering workshops on topics such as creative writing, script writing, production, editing, animation, acting for film as well as a “club time” for kids to come work informally on their projects. CU instructor/freelance film editor David Kalish will be heading up the program. He and other instructors will teach the various workshops. People can participate in whatever capacity they want. Teen Photography Program

Adult Drawing and Acrylic Painting Class

The first hour of class will be structured drawing and the second hour will be an open studio for painting, with demos and techniques in acrylic discussed. This sex-week class is designed to improve and challenge your drawing skills while cultivate your own painting style. Supplies are provided; acrylic paint, canvas board, canvas and some pre-stretched canvas will be available, depending on your needs.
